Small and big gadgets I use for my iPhone, iPad, computers or travel. Things that help me out, bring me joy, are useful and I would recommend. These are not detailed reviews, but more of impressions.
Hello, I’m Michael Sliwinski, founder of Nozbe - to-do app for business owners and their teams. I write essays, books, work on projects and I podcast for you using #iPadOnly in #NoOffice as I believe that work is not a place you go to, it’s a thing you do.
This week I’m traveling to the USA on business as I’ve been offered a quite unique opportunity to meet one of my business gurus - Nathan Barry - and record a podcast with him - the Nathan Barry Show. It’s a quick trip as I’m staying in the US for only 3 nights. And it’s a long trek, as I’ll be flying close to 20 hours each way. For this trip I decided to pack ultra-light and get only the most necessary tech:
Turns out in technology, if you dig deep enough, life… uh… finds a way as Jeff Goldblum would say. After my USB-C all gifts post I got lots of cool suggestions for more USB-C powered gadgets, but I also inspired people to search for solutions to their old appliances. One of my good friends, determined to keep using his Phillips shaver, found an adapter that converts their proprietary charger to USB-C and right after, he sent me one for Braun:
🐭 I’m using a mouse with LEFT HAND, even though I’m RIGHT-handed?! Do you know why?
For the last two years my most important daily devices have had USB-C ports: iPhone and iPad… and gradually I’ve been migrating from gadgets that require ports like Lightning or micro-USB… I’m now fast-charging the Watch using it’s dedicated USB-C cable (which I’m also using to charge my AirPods)… and as I’ve been enjoying this USB-C lifestyle, I started looking at other appliances that don’t have old-school dedicated chargers but are using USB-C instead! Here are my latest discoveries:
Back in April of 2012 I started my #iPadOnly journey with a retina iPad 3. Turns out this 13-year old device can be still pretty useful. A few years back I put it on the wall of my home office but recently I moved it to the kitchen and it’s awesome there:
I’m a big fan of Peak Design and I have ordered their Everyday Zip Backpack 15L (Amazon link) as my go-to backpack for travel. And before that I ordered their Outdoor Backpack 25L as my new default backpack (Amazon link). What I didn’t order is their latest invention - the carry-on luggage Roller Pro despite looking very cool:
In Europe, most airlines, especially Ryanair, Easyjet and Wizzair, let you have a free small bag which you can put under a seat. The dimensions are more-less 40cm of height (16 inches), 25-30cm of width (10-12 inches) and 20cm of bulk (8 inches). Most of my backpacks are between 20-26L and they are just too big. Normally I’d get away with it, but recently the airlines started paying more attention to these bags’ sizes. So I checked if my favorite bag/pouches company Peak Design had anything that would work and I think I found it. It’s Everyday Backpack Zip 15L (Amazon link).
Now that I’ve posted a comprehensive list of things I carry in my backpack and it’s still Black Week on Amazon and in many other places, let’s talk about chargers. Here in Europe there are 3 chargers from Anker worth considering: Prime 100W, 67W and 47W and despite their clear differences in power, in size they are quite similar:
Even though I’ve updated my travel gear list less than a year ago, I’ve upgraded a bunch of smaller and bigger (M4 iPad Pro) things this year, so I think it’s time for yet another update. Especially that this week is a Black Week with lots of good prices. Especially I’m providing Amazon links with my affiliate ID so by clicking on them not only you’ll see the deals but you’ll be also supporting this page. Thanks and enjoy!
Now that the summer is looming and it’s going to be the hottest summer in the history of mankind, you should be wearing sunglasses. If you’re like me, and you like to listen to podcasts or audio books, consider getting a 2-in-1 - sunglasses with audio Bluetooth for around 30-40 bucks.
